Overview
In recognition of the Hewlett Foundation’s 50th anniversary, the Hewlett 50 Arts Commissions initiative supports the creation and premiere of 50 exceptional works of performing arts. This grant will support ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco in developing and presenting “Cigarra,” a capoeira work by lead artist Márcia Treidler that will include elements of movement, music, singing, and theater. The commission will focus on the stories of female pioneers in Afro-Brazilian cultural traditions, including Márcia Treidler’s life as a teacher, performer, and practitioner of capoeira for over 40 years.
