Overview
Climate Central’s mission is to communicate climate change science, effects, and solutions to the public and decision makers, reaching audiences across the ideological spectrum and empowering effective responses. Climate Central uses science, data, and technology to generate thousands of local storylines and compelling visuals that make clear the impacts of climate change, the unequal burdens they pose, and what can be done. To disseminate this information at national and global scales, the organization works within a large network of meteorologists and journalists, as well as many others — from government and business leaders to planners, nongovernmental organizations, and educators. for the Realtime Fingerprints program
This grant supports Climate Central’s work to advance critical new climate communication tools that offer science-based connections between weather and climate, and facilitate their widespread use in the media and beyond. The Realtime Fingerprints program will enable powerful, localized, and timely communication about climate impacts, helping more Americans — with a wide range of beliefs and from communities across the country — viscerally understand the threats that climate change poses to them and their communities, and the need for both adaptation and mitigation. for general operating support
Climate Central is an independent organization of leading scientists, journalists, and technologists researching and reporting the facts about our changing climate and its impact on the public. The organization surveys and conducts scientific research on climate change and informs the public of key findings. The organization makes accurate and effective climate communication as widely and readily available as the most routine elements of the news seeking to generate responses to climate change that are proportional to its threat.
