For Enhancing Women’s Economic Empowerment In The African Continental Free Trade Area

Overview
The Eastern African Sub-Regional Support Initiative (EASSI) for the Advancement of Women is a subregional, nonprofit organization based in Uganda. EASSI works with women traders and policymakers at the national, subregional, and African continental levels to strengthen women’s knowledge, capacity, and resilience in trade through advocacy for a gender-responsive trading environment. EASSI seeks to enhance gender equality and social justice through networking, research, capacity building, and advocacy for women. This grant supports EASSI’s commitment to advancing meaningful participation of women in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Under this grant, EASSI will facilitate policy engagement with the governments of Uganda and Kenya to promote gender-responsive trade policies that facilitate women’s participation in informal domestic and regional trade under the AfCFTA.
