Overview
African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) is an independent international not-for-profit organization that pursues the interests of library and information associations, library and information services, librarians and information workers, and the communities they serve in Africa. With this grant, AfLIA, in partnership with the University of Cape Town and SPARC Africa, will host a workshop on library publishing. The workshop will equip participants from university libraries across the continent to learn about the fundamentals of open access and prepare them to create and manage the dissemination of an open journal or book title at their institutions. African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) pursues the interests of library and information associations, library and information services, librarians and information workers, and the communities they serve in Africa. As a pan-African association, AflLIA collaborates with national governments, national library associations, and different types of libraries throughout Africa and its islands. AfLIA champions freedom and equitable access to information through improved facilities and human capacity in libraries; supports the development of the library and information profession; advocates for favorable library policies; positions libraries as information centers and partners on the national and global development agenda; and organizes forums for knowledge sharing and networking about OER and other topics among librarians.
