Overview
China has expressed a desire to make a positive contribution to global environmental challenges. China’s huge portfolio of overseas investments under the Belt and Road Initiative stands to make or break the targets of the Paris Agreement. This grant supports ClientEarth’s work to strengthen environmental law in China and mitigate the climate and environmental impacts of China’s overseas trade and investment. Under the China program, this grant also supports capacity development for environmental judges and prosecutors, and nurtures the newly established NGO capacity-building fund. for the China Program’s E.U.-China climate engagement and climate-related policy and law enforcement
This grant supports ClientEarth to advance E.U.-China cooperation on environment protection and climate change. With these funds, ClientEarth’s China team will work to strengthen accountability mechanisms in China to ensure environmental legislation, policies, and governance are fit for safeguarding the progress of China’s low-carbon transition. It will also provide legal support for China’s climate transition, nature conservation, and restoration; develop capacity for environmental judges and prosecutors; and support environmental public supervision through E.U.-China policy and best-practices alignment.
