Global Citizen Year Incorporated

Global Citizen Year enables youth to spend a "bridge year" between high school and college, as apprentices in Africa and Latin America, offering them the opportunity to hone skills required for success in a globalized world and build a greater interest in development issues. The program requires youths to share their experiences widely, creating a ripple effect among their communities at home. This grant would support full scholarships for low-income youths from the Bay Area to participate in the program. The grant is expected to serve several of the Foundation’s goals by promoting deeper learning for low-income Bay Area youths and encouraging Americans to support better development policies for the world’s poor.
