Grants to this Grantee
for support of a student civic module
The mission of the Institute for Citizens & Scholars is to cultivate the talent, ideas, and networks that develop young people as empowered, lifelong citizens. This grant will support the early-stage development of a beta artificial intelligence program to promote key democratic skills related to dialogue across difference and collaborative problem solving, and to cultivate civic dispositions such as humility, curiosity, and empathy. (Substrategy: Student and Community Voice)
for civic education field building
The Institute for Citizens & Scholars, formerly the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, designs and administers prestigious fellowships that allow recipients opportunities to pursue education and professional development and to build their professional network. In 2019, the institute expanded its focus to include the co-creation and implementation of a more effective civic education and approach to “citizen development.” This grant supports Citizen & Scholars’ continuing efforts to build trusting partnerships across the civics field, develop a communications approach, and define a research agenda. (Substrategy: Student and Community Voice)
for civic education field building
The Institute for Citizens & Scholars cultivates talent, ideas, and networks that develop effective, lifelong citizens. Its mission is to ensure that Americans are well informed and productively engaged in and hopeful about our democracy. Part of the institute’s work on effective “citizen development” engages our public education system, its stakeholders, and community partners. Currently we support the institute’s efforts to build trusting partnerships across the civics field, develop a communications approach, and define a research agenda. The process of mounting these initiatives has been slower and harder than anticipated. This grant speeds up the development process by supporting additional staff capacity. (Strategy: K-12 Teaching and Learning)
