Overview
The Smart Freight Centre, based in Europe, is a new organization created to tackle the problem of freight pollution, filling a gap of capacity worldwide. Freight transport is growing rapidly, and its associated emissions are contributing to climate change and human health impacts, especially in developing countries. The goal of this grant is to support the development of a global strategy that includes technology innovation, improvements in logistics, and system efficiency. The Centre will convene and approach a diverse set of stakeholders, from clean energy experts to shipping companies and carriers. They will also test and apply what is learned in the city of Beijing through the Green Trucks China project.

Smart Freight Centre (SFC) is a global organization on climate action in the freight sector. Its goal is to guide the global logistics industry to track and reduce its GHG emissions by 1 billion tons by 2030 and reach zero emissions by 2050 or earlier. SFC collaborates with global partners to quantify impacts, identify solutions, and advocate logistics decarbonization strategies. (Substrategies: China National Policy and India National Policy)

The Smart Freight Centre’s mission is to make the global freight and logistics sector more efficient, low carbon, and environmentally sustainable. Freight is a major contributor to climate change and reducing its emissions is now a focus of the electrification substrategy. The centre will implement a global strategy that includes working with private sector actors, shippers, and carriers in measuring emissions, and provide trainings to accelerate the procurement of zero-emission freight vehicles.
