Michael Gerson and Peter Wehner served as aides to President George W. Bush and subsequently authored City of Man: Religion and Politics in a New Era. This project grant to the Ethics and Public Policy Center will enable them to engage with leaders of Evangelical Christians in the United States to explore ways in which the values of civility, persuasion, and pluralism could be invoked by church and para-church leaders to alleviate the problem of political polarization.

Michael Gerson and Peter Wehner served as aides to President George W. Bush and subsequently authored City of Man: Religion and Politics in a New Era. This project grant to the Ethics and Public Policy Center will enable them to engage with leaders of Evangelical Christians in the US to solicit their perspective on ways in which traditional commitments of the church to civility, persuasion, and pluralism could be invoked by church and para-church leaders to alleviate the problem of political polarization.

This grant renewal will assist Ethics and Public Policy Center and its senior fellow, Peter Wehner, in their efforts to remind Americans of the value of politics and how to think concretely about how to improve it. Through television appearances, columns, essays, and a forthcoming book, The Death of Politics, Mr. Wehner will argue that restoring America’s noble political tradition can get us back to the task of making America a more perfect union. If citizens demand more of our politicians by demanding more of themselves, our politics and country will improve.
