Overview
This project would encourage the K-12 and postsecondary sectors to share ownership of college-readiness standards and promote their use in decisions about students’ readiness for college-level work. We initiated this effort with the Lumina and Gates foundations and the Carnegie Corporation to promote use of the Common Core standards. The student-centered goals are to reduce the need for remedial college classes and increase students’ success in attaining credentials; the larger policy goal is to increase higher education’s use of the assessments in placing students. The latter would help to legitimize the "college readiness" of the assessments and incent state K-12 systems to adopt and implement them with fidelity.
