The Strategic Literacy Initiative at WestEd designs and facilitates professional development focused on helping students achieve higher levels of academic literacy and learning. The Initiative will increase opportunities for high-need students to engage with more varied, authentic, and challenging science tasks and texts by increasing teacher knowledge and use of OER and by building knowledge and professional learning resources to help teachers create high-quality, text-based investigation modules. The Initiative also will leverage a SEED grant from the U.S. Department of Education to broadly disseminate acquired knowledge, tools, and resources.
