Overview
This grant will enable Marie Stopes International US (MSI-US) to collaborate with ideas42 (a Hewlett grantee) to apply principles from behavioral economics to improve how reproductive health services are provided in their clinics in Uganda and Nepal. MSI-US worked closely with ideas42 to identify persistent challenges that could be addressed with behavioral solutions. The project in Uganda will focus on increasing the redemption rates of e-vouchers that are provided to call center clients. In Nepal, MSI-US will test interventions that seek to improve the likelihood of a follow-up visit after a medical abortion, and ways to integrate family planning services as part of this continuum of abortion care.

Grants to this Grantee
for the Mexico program
MSI Mexico is a program of MSI Reproductive Choices, a global, nongovernmental organization committed to promoting and protecting sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), with a focus on contraception, abortion and post abortion care service and providing services to millions of the world's most marginalized and underserved individuals. MSI Mexico is the leading abortion provider in Mexico. It is currently scaling up its services in response to the 2023 Mexican Supreme Court abortion decriminalization decision and the 2022 United States Supreme Court Dobbs decision. (GEG Opportunities Fund in support of these strategies U.S. Reproductive Equity, Inclusive Governance, and Global Reproductive Equity.)
for support of MSI’s programs in East and Francophone West Africa
This grant to MSI Reproductive Choices will support its reproductive health service delivery across six of MSI’s programs in Africa: Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Niger, Kenya, and Uganda. The grant will support these country programs to advance reproductive equity for underserved groups like young people by expanding access to contraception and safe abortion/postabortion care. The primary goal of the program is to substantially improve both access to and the quality of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services. This will lead to a reduction in unsafe abortion rates, a decrease in unintended pregnancies, and a decrease in unmet need for contraception. This grant is aligned with the Global Reproductive Equity strategy.
for support of MSI's Sahel program
MSI-United States (MSI-US) provides reproductive health services to women and men in the Sahel region of West Africa in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Senegal. Following on the success of two previous restricted grants to their regional Sahel program, this flexible program support will allow MSI-US to be responsive and innovative in their reproductive health service delivery. They have opportunities to expand to new countries and to continue to innovate in how they reach clients living in poverty and young people. MSI’s Sahel program will also focus on staff capacity and morale, which has suffered during COVID-19. This grant is aligned with the Global Reproductive Equity strategy to support the SRHR ecosystem in Francophone West Africa.
