Global Witness, a non-governmental advocacy organization with offices in the United States and the United Kingdom, exposes and challenges corruption in countries that are rich in natural resources like oil, gas, and minerals. Global Witness seeks to ensure that revenue from natural resources drives peaceful and sustainable development in the world’s poorest countries. Engaging the media and civil society networks like Publish What You Pay, Global Witness carries out investigations to expose corruption and mounts campaigns against secrecy in the international financial system. Global Witness also advocates for systemic change by promoting stronger international standards and regulations that can tackle problems of hidden company ownership, tax evasion, and money laundering.
