Overview
Ali Akbar College of Music teaches novice to advanced students in the traditional practice of North Indian classical music. Since 1967, the college has trained thousands of students and educated audiences through public concerts and recordings of master Ali Akbar Khan. Following Maestro Khan’s passing in 2009, the organization has maintained its presence by bolstering the visibility of the maestro’s senior disciples and expanding classes online. The college plans to offer classes in San Jose and Berkeley, as well as continue those at its San Rafael campus; annually present fifteen concerts; and open the Ali Akbar Khan Library, a digital collection of recordings and historical material that would be available to the public.

for general operating support
Ali Akbar College of Music is an independent school dedicated to the teaching and continuation of North Indian classical music. It reaches approximately 2,000 people each year through its in-person and online classes, concert and community education programs, and collaborations with public and private schools in Oakland and San Francisco. In addition, the organization provides online and in-person public access to the Ali Akbar Khan Library, which houses more than 8,000 hours of the late Ali Akbar Khan’s work. Support for the Ali Akbar College of Music advances the Performing Arts Program’s Artists strategy.
