Overview
Each year, El Campanil Theatre Preservation Foundation presents over 100 events at its 700-seat Art Deco theatre in Antioch, reaching an audience of 30,000 people. El Campanil Theatre is one of the region’s few purpose-built cultural facilities and is an essential economic cornerstone for Antioch’s struggling Rivertown Business District. As such, it is a key grantee for the Performing Arts Program in that geographic region. It is home to a resident community theater group that performs classic musicals for senior citizens, operates a children’s theater program that serves 8,000 youth, and offers theater rentals at a discount to community groups and small arts organizations. After ten successful and relatively stable years, the organization recognizes that it’s necessary to grow, renew, and strengthen its board in order to better sustain the organization. An Organizational Effectiveness grant for board development would enable the organization to strategically expand and strengthen its board to help ensure the organization’s future—specifically, by building up the board’s fundraising capacity and mapping out a leadership succession plan.
