Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevoelkerung

For General Operating Support

Overview
The Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung (DSW) promotes sustainable development and improved health in low- and middle-income countries by advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights. Through its offices in Germany, Belgium, and East Africa, DSW provides research-based population information to political leaders and the media, facilitates collaboration among European NGOs working in population and reproductive health, and implements projects to empower youth in developing countries. Unrestricted funds would enable DSW to continue to strengthen the links between population dynamics, global health, economic development, and the environment. In 2010, the Foundation awarded DSW an organizational effectiveness grant for strategic planning. Its new strategic plan (2011–16) includes four integrated thematic areas: (1) making the case for family planning and reproductive health so donor and national governments prioritize and sufficiently fund these services; (2) engaging in global health by advocating for increased financial and political commitment for poverty-related health issues such as maternal and child health and HIV/AIDS; (3) ensuring an integrated approach to population, health, and the environment; and (4) empowering young people to actively participate in decision-making processes to improve policies and programs that address youth health and livelihood needs.
