Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
California Symphony Orchestra, the only professional symphony orchestra serving Contra Costa County, produces a four-concert subscription series at Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, alongside its Young American Composer-in-Residence program, free community performances, and a Music-in-the-Schools assembly program reaching 3,000 K-5 students. The past two years have seen major leadership transitions, with the hiring of a new executive director and the controversial board dismissal of the founding music director; financial vulnerability has dogged the organization for a number of years. Renewed funding would allow the orchestra to stabilize and chart its future course. Particular attention will be paid to the organization’s financial stability and its ability to navigate transitions in executive and artistic leadership.
