Overview
The Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA) is a pan-African nonprofit organization and feminist initiative that engages the rule of law within African domestic and regional courts to advance women’s human rights. ISLA seeks to highlight and assert women’s leadership and contribution in the African Human Rights System by making visible women’s voices and experiences in the jurisprudence to bring gender bias to the surface. ISLA's work is designed to challenge patriarchy, class, and power relations by focusing on women’s voices and women’s agency. ISLA works to to scale up its strategic litigation and capacity strengthening initiatives to ensure that the human rights of those most marginalized on the basis of their gender and sexual identity in Africa are realized.
