Overview
NRDC has long been a strong advocate for energy efficiency in California. In large part due to NRDC's visionary work with the state's public utility commission, California utilities lead the country in energy efficiency programs. However, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) lags behind most other state utilities in this area, even as it remains the most coal-dependent utility in the state. This grant will provide NRDC with resources to engage with LADWP in its upcoming 10-year Integrated Resource Planning process to insure that energy efficiency has a central role in the utility's future investment plans. Funds will be used to hire and manage expert witnesses that will review LADWP's energy efficiency potential studies, and develop the regulatory and economic case for the utility to invest in clean energy, particularly energy efficiency, and move away from its existing dependence on coal generation.
