Pat Scheid

Pat Scheid was a Program Officer in Global Development and Population at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. She managed grants that support open and responsive governance, and promoted public participation so that public services work well for citizens. She focused on opportunities in West Africa, as well as regional or global programs that contributed to learning about what works in civil society and citizen monitoring of service delivery.

Previously, Pat was the program director at the International Youth Foundation, where she managed a team and portfolio of grants supporting youth employability, education and leadership development in Africa. She also worked at Aga Khan Foundation USA as a program officer, and later as their director of programs and strategic partnerships where she led field operations support, resource mobilization and partnership development to enhance the impact of civil society organizations that empower communities and help improve the quality and equity of education and healthcare services.

Pat has a bachelor’s degree in economics, political science and computer science from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in organizational development from Johns Hopkins University. As a Peace Corps volunteer in Niger, she worked on women’s empowerment. Pat enjoys world music and dance, speaks French and is an avid reader.
