Brett Johnson serves as Deputy Chief Investment Officer and Director of Public Investments at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. He works closely with other senior members of the investment team to evaluate and select external fund managers, monitor their performance, and develop investment strategies.
Prior to joining the foundation, Brett was responsible for the portfolio management of public equity and fixed-income investments. As co-founder and chief investment officer at Alesco Global Advisors (AGA), an investment firm acquired by Grubb & Ellis then more recently by Lazard Asset Management, Brett was responsible for managing three mutual funds and overseeing the firm’s investment process. He began his career in equity research at Robertson Stephens. He has a BA in Economics and International Relations from Stanford University and an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania
