The Hewlett Foundation commissioned historian and author Garrett Graff to write a short history about the growth of the cybersecurity and policy field and the role the foundation played in the development.
Graff traces the rise of major influences in cybersecurity policy from 1997 through 2023. The history digs into the major incidents, attacks, and wake-up calls that led to shifts in governmental and corporate policy as well as the influence of the Cyber Initiative as the lead philanthropic funder from 2014 to 2023.
