Overview
WQED Pittsburgh was the first community-supported television station in the country and the forerunner of today’s PBS. WQED now houses WQED-TV (PBS), WQED World, WQED Create, WQED Showcase, and WQED PBS Kids channel, among others. This grant supports the JUST FUTURES project, a media initiative launched by WQED for the PBS national system that seeks to understand the scope and rationale of the reparations debate. Building on key issues of diversity and democracy, slavery and its aftermath, and socioeconomic indicators, the initiative includes a one-hour documentary to be produced by WQED exploring the issue of reparations. Delivery is slated for early spring 2023.
