Grants to this Grantee
for the Institute for Nonviolence and Social Justice
The USF Institute for Nonviolence and Social Justice (INSJ) investigates, illuminates, and advances the theory and practice of transformational nonviolence in the tradition of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. to confront and overcome racism, economic and environmental injustice, and systemic violence — and to contribute to the just resolution of communal conflict. This grant supported INSJ’s event in San Francisco honoring INSJ co-founder Dr. Clarence B. Jones. The event included hundreds of social justice activists, church members, grassroots neighborhood organizations, and high school and college students in a community gathering honoring Dr. Jones and Bryan Stevenson, with remarks and dialogue, and inspiring musical performances by the Kronos Quartet, Jennifer Johns, and Joan Baez.
