Overview
The University of Minnesota runs the Open Textbook Initiative to engage with U.S. universities and colleges to help establish or advance open textbook initiatives and faculty adoption of OER. The Initiative would grow to meet increasing demand by continuing to run open textbook review workshops at campuses; training local staff to run workshops independently; training faculty to become champions of open textbooks and credible OER advocates to their peers; and expanding the newly established Open Textbook Network of higher education institutions. This work will expand adoption of OER in higher education to equalize access to education for all learners.

Grants to this Grantee
for support of communications and community management at the Open Textbook Network
The Open Textbook Network is an alliance of higher education institutions, systems, and consortia working to more fully realize their potential by engaging in the open education ecosystem. The network will expand its community-building efforts around best practices, infrastructure, and common-good resources through engagement with members and collaborative partners. These efforts can reduce the cost of college and advance learning in postsecondary courses by ensuring that the development and implementation of OER, including open textbooks, are supported within and across institutions.
