Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar

For The Planning Phase Of A Civil-society Assessment Of Learning In Senegal

Overview
The Quality Education in Developing Countries (QEDC) initiative has funded civil society assessments of children’s learning in India, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and Mali. This has proven a powerful approach to raising awareness of the learning crisis in these countries. This planning grant would lay the groundwork for a similar exercise in Senegal, a country with a proud history of education that now is failing its children in schools. We recommend a grant to the Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar, with the work to be carried out by the Research Laboratory on Economic and Social Transformations (Laboratoire de Recherche sur Les Transformations Economiques et Sociales de l’IFAN (LARTES/IFAN)). It is the government’s research partner of choice in the social sectors, yet prides itself on sound research practice and speaking truth to power. Civil society groups would partner in directing and implementing the project.
