Overview
This grant is for enhancing the capacity of and coordinating with the U.N. secretary-general’s Climate Team and key U.N. agencies to deliver their ambitious climate agenda, building bridges between the United States — at the federal and state levels — and the U.N. around key international diplomatic events. Through strategic convenings and coordination across different constituencies, the U.N. Foundation will encourage climate ambition from countries as they consider Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) enhancement and the development of long-term strategies. Grants to this Grantee
for the U.S. Climate Alliance
The U.S. Climate Alliance is uniquely suited to help states deliver on historic opportunities for bold climate action and maximize the potential of the Inflation Reduction Act to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This grant will support states as they harness new federal resources, creating in-house secretariat capacity to provide technical, policy, and communications assistance to states, at scale, and deliver critical flexible funding. (Substrategy: U.S. National Policy
for the U.S. Climate Alliance
The U.S. Climate Alliance is a bipartisan coalition of governors representing 24 states, with more than 60% of U.S. GDP, 55% of the U.S. population, and 40% of U.S. emissions. These governors are committed to driving the nation’s ambitious climate agenda by working in partnership with each other, the federal government, and the international community. The alliance has an important role to play in implementation of federal climate investment laws by supporting state engagement with federal agencies, supporting the development of state decarbonization plans, and supporting effective deployment of federal dollars to drive decarbonization and community economic development.
