Overview
The American Prospect is a respected nonprofit magazine dedicated to inspiring thoughtful and just public policy. During the grant period, The Prospect will produce a series of articles on neoliberalism — as theory, as ideology, and as a dominant form of politics that has undermined the capacity of our democracy to harness a market economy in a broad public interest. The series will unpack the term, neoliberalism, into its several dimensions. It will analyze how the ideology, the intellectual capital formation, politics, and policies, have been mutually reinforcing. It will assess various policy regimes carried out in the name of market efficiency, their results, and alternatives. It will explore possible versions of a post-neoliberal regime that reclaims managed capitalism as a majority politics and democratic government as a credible instrument of the common good.

for general operating support
The American Prospect journal connects progressive policy to viable majority politics. A core Prospect goal is to educate the broad public on the need for a regulated capitalism that looks beyond flawed and corruptible private markets to a democratically governed economy with vibrant public institutions. The Prospect, now in its 32nd year, publishes journalists who go beyond daily headlines and scholars who can write for broad audiences. It is noted for “explainer†pieces that deeply probe how compromised private and public systems function and offer remedies. Besides six print editions yearly, the magazine’s website publishes several original articles every day. The American Prospect also sponsors a young writers fellowship, which has launched the careers of many of America’s leading public affairs journalists.
