Overview
Through the power of storytelling, Streetside Stories cultivates young people’s voices, develops their literacy and arts skills, and fosters educational equity. In-school and after-school programs reach more than 1,000 K-12 students per year, at twenty Bay Area public schools, community centers, and low-income housing sites. Focusing on young people who attend struggling schools in under-resourced neighborhoods, Streetside Stories reaches a diverse population: 97 percent of its students come from communities of color and 88 percent come from low-income families. Renewed support will allow Streetside Stories to plan for the end of a long-time and significant U.S. Department of Education grant, and reexamine its school partnership model in the context of changing school priorities.
