Overview
The mission of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences is to advance research on the study of human behavior. Housed at Stanford University, it offers a residential postdoctoral fellowship program in a variety of academic disciplines. In 2008, the Center adopted a new selection system for awarding its fellowships, with the idea of making the plan more open and inclusive. A key recommendation of the Center’s strategic planning initiative conducted in 2010 was to revisit the new application and selection procedures with an eye to assessing how well the system is working. With this project grant, the Center would examine how well its procedures work in practice, ensuring in particular that the Center continues to attract applicants of the highest quality whose work is consistent with its core mission and ideals. The study would also examine how the selection systems of its sister institutions and related post-doctoral fellowship programs are structured, in part to identify best practices and lessons learned.
