Overview
Stanford Jazz Workshop (SJW) has been a Prforming Arts grantee since 1996 with more than $1 million in total funding over two decades. The organization consistently meets expectations, though it has experienced some financial challenges recently. SJW is now at a critical juncture as its founder and primary leader begins to shift roles within the organization after 43 years. SJW will contract with a consultant to conduct an organizational assessment, including an analysis of the financials, fundraising and staff leadership structure. It is likely that the founder will remain highly engaged in the artistic direction of the organization, while administrative responsibilities will be shifted to an administrative director (position title and description to be developed based on the assessment). This will prepare the organization to hire a new Executive Director in early 2016 to share leadership responsibilities with the founder.

Its four main programs include an annual all-ages Jazz Residency, a summer Jazz Camp for young people aged 12 to 17, the annual Stanford Jazz Festival, and a smaller year-round after-school jazz program for middle and high school students. The two-week camp and one-week residency serve more than 800 participants, with scholarships available to approximately 20% of its students.
