Overview
Solar United Neighborhoods help communities go solar, join together, and advocate for the health and economic benefits of solar as needed to mitigate the onset of global warming. The Florida SUN program helps neighborhoods across the state form solar co-ops, supports co-op homeowners in weighing in collectively on renewable energy policy debates, and assists with media and communications for broad public education about the economic and environmental benefits of solar. Because of restrictive policies and other barriers, the Sunshine State only generates 0.1 percent of its electricity from solar sources even though the state is ranked third in the nation for solar rooftop potential. Florida SUN seeks to overcome those barriers.

Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
Solar United Neighbors is building a new model for clean energy, with rooftop solar at its cornerstone. The organization helps communities unlock access to clean energy systems, allowing them direct control and the ability to reap the benefits. Building distributed energy systems is just the beginning of SUN’s work, they also give people tools to join together and advocate for their clean energy rights. (Substrategy: U.S. National Policy)
for the Solar Help Desk, iChoosr, and solar army projects
Solar United Neighbors (SUN) brings more Americans into the climate movement and helps them directly benefit from recent federal climate investments by going solar and electrifying their homes and vehicles. SUN will help deliver on the promise made in the Inflation Reduction Act of expanding rooftop solar by 7.5 million additional homes by 2032 by scaling the organization’s national Solar Help Desk and expanding its solar bulk-purchasing program. SUN will also supercharge the rank of solar advocates nationwide through their solar army, building grassroots support for increased solar deployment with the goal of growing from 360,000 members to 1,000,000 by the end of 2023. (Substrategy: U.S. National Policy)
