Overview
The Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) is a key partner of the Great Communities Collaborative, a joint funding effort to implement low-carbon and equitable transit-oriented development in the Bay Area. The main goals of the collaborative are to change the trajectory of urban growth in the Bay Area and be consistent with an 80 percent reduction of emissions in the state by 2050. With this grant, SVCF hopes to create a new coalition, the Transportation Equity Allied Movement Coalition, to provide a voice for low-income, transit-dependent residents to advocate for equitable development, transportation equity, and public transit funding in San Mateo County.

The Holiday Fund disburses funds to local newspapers that, in turn, make general operating support grants to a wide variety of local nonprofits, ranging from food banks to health centers to youth programs. While the Holiday Fund provides support for direct services through this program, it also stimulates giving by new donors, encourages the growth of philanthropy on the Peninsula, and increases newspaper readers’ awareness of local nonprofit organizations through both advertising and feature articles.
