Overview
Silicon Valley Community Foundation, the second largest community foundation in the nation, is dedicated to improving
life in Silicon Valley by catalyzing regional solutions. The Bay Area faces a significant challenge as the population will
increase by 1.7 million people—24 percent—over 25 years. As part of the Great Communities Collaborative (GCC)
Coalition, SVCF will work to change the current "sprawl" approach to development with negatively impacts underserved
communities both economically and environmentally. The Foundation will focus on the San Jose’s Diridon Station area,
where there is an opportunity to merge better transit with affordable housing and good jobs as part of the redevelopment
of the area. The SVCF’s regranting and training will empower community voices to advocate before the City of San Jose's
planning task force. The long-term goal of the GCC is to change the trajectory of growth in the Bay Area by having half
of the new homes built by 2030 be in walk-able communities, at affordable prices, near transit, services and jobs, and with access to recreation and open space.
