Overview
Silicon Valley Gives is an effort, spearheaded by the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, to launch a 24-hour online giving event in 2014 to encourage broad donor support of local Silicon Valley nonprofits. A series of matches and prizes will be offered to help incentivize donor participation. The Silicon Valley project marks one example of a national effort overseen by the Council on Foundations to honor the 100th birthday of community foundations - on May 6, 2014 community foundations across the country will participate. In preparation, SVCF will offer a series of targeted trainings to help strengthen the capacity of local nonprofits to promote themselves through social media and other online methods. Silicon Valley Gives will then leverage and expand on the broader national marketing effort to bring attention to the local role of community foundations and to drive support to local nonprofits, focusing on San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
