Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
Established in 2015, Siasa Place is a youth-led and youth-focused civic-tech organization that is building confidence, skills, competencies, and institutional structures necessary for meaningful and dignified participation of young people in politics, governance, and the civic life in Kenya. Inspired by the constitutional promise of the right to public participation and convinced of young people’s interest, potential, and capacity to influence decisions that affect them, Siasa Place is leveraging the technology to expand the reach and quality of young peoples’ engagement in the social, economic, civic, and political life of their communities. Siasa Place aims to advance its strategic vision and strengthen its institutional resilience and capacity to quickly respond to emerging needs and emergencies as well as extend its actions and contextual response. for WriteAfrica
Siasa Place is a youth-led nongovernmental organization established in 2015 that specializes in working with youth and building institutional structures that support youth with the mission of promoting their participation in democratic processes through research, training, civic education, networking, and strategic partnerships. WriteAfrica is a platform initiated by Siasa Place to build capacity, mentor, and support young people as they use the platforms available to participate in governance through inspiring stories told through writings, cartoon illustrations, and short videos. This project grant will support the WriteAfrica roll- out in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kakamega. It will focus on growing youth storytelling skills, collaborating with learning institutions to establish book clubs for writers, creating youth- friendly platforms for sharing and supporting unique storytelling competitions based on interest because Siasa Place appreciates that writing is
a powerful tool to express one’s opinions, vent, and possibly shape policy framework to peacefully address the challenges affecting communities. (Strategy: Inclusive Governance)
