San Jose Multicultural Artists Guild’s mission is to serve communities by producing and presenting cross-cultural arts programming that reflects the experiences of African Americans, women, and Chicanos/Latinos. Each year, the guild reaches diverse audiences of more than 35,000 people. Its work includes a theater program that presents major productions at the Mexican Heritage Plaza; a community arts program that offers performances and workshops at community venues throughout Silicon Valley, including the annual Day of the Dead Festival in San Jose; and an arts education program that provides in-school, after-school, and summer programs. This grant aligns with the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.

San Jose Multicultural Artists Guild’s mission is to serve communities by presenting and producing cross-cultural arts programming that reflects the experiences of African Americans, women, and Chicanos/Latinos. A collective of three organizations, the Guild reaches highly diverse audiences of more than 25,000 people through its annual season of five performances at the Mexican Heritage Plaza, as well as performances in community-based venues such as social service agencies, community centers, and women’s shelters. With a robust set of in-school and after-school arts education programs, the organization will add a new program in 2011, an initiative to employ artists of color to conduct literacy residencies in underserved schools.
