Overview
The goal of this overall effort—called Core to College—is to encourage the K-12 and postsecondary sectors to share ownership of college-readiness standards and promote their use in decisions about students’ readiness for college-level work. This initiative, a collaboration with the Lumina and Gates foundations and the Carnegie Corporation, promotes use of the Common Core standards to reduce students’ need for remedial classes in college and increase their success in attaining credentials. This supplemental grant would help Core to College institutions of higher education reform their academic catch-up courses for low-skilled students by aligning with the Common Core.

The collaborative is committed to the kind of listening, partnering, and learning that values lived expertise, shifts power, and leads to more equitable outcomes.
