Overview
RMI works to promote carbon neutrality in China’s rural development. Given China’s mandate to promote inclusive development for all, and the government’s Rural Revitalization centerpiece role, this project aims to incorporate low-carbon development into China’s rural development, in order to optimize opportunities to achieve the dual goals. RMI will establish a close working relationship with key decision-making ministries, develop a roadmap for rural carbon neutrality, tackle climate equity issues, demonstrate breakthrough technologies and innovative mechanisms at typical rural pilots, and mobilize key market players to mobilize private capital. In addition, RMI also plans to facilitate the effective scaling through a public report release and communications campaign. (Substrategy: China National Policy)

Grants to this Grantee
for accelerating clean electricity goals for the Indian power grid
RMI’s mission is to transform the global energy system to secure a clean, prosperous, zero-carbon future for all. With this project, RMI and its partners are collectively undertaking a first-of-its-kind study to comprehensively assess the cost-effectiveness and reliability of clean energy pathways for 2030 and beyond in India. The project seeks to contribute to India’s upcoming National Electricity Plan (2026-27) by recommending a clear roadmap for setting an interim goal for power sector decarbonization. (Substrategy: India National Policy)
for the Further Together program
Further Together, an initiative of the Rocky Mountain Institute, enables leaders of environmental groups, business coalitions, and in academia who are addressing the climate crisis to collaborate across diverse change models and geographies. The initiative helps leaders, as they manage their own institutions, to better understand how their work fits into the ecosystem of other global actors, facilitating coordination, collaboration, and identification of gaps and needs. This grant supports planning for the joint work, including organizing, preparing for, and facilitating meetings of the group, as well as supporting deep dives into key topics raised in these convenings. (Substrategy: Multilateral)
for the China Program’s systematic energy transition and equitable energy transition work
