Overview
The California state parks system is the largest and most diverse in the country. Yet it has failed to keep up with the state’s changing needs and does not have the financial resources to care for and operate the system in the future. This grant would support the creation of a collaborative effort that would combine expertise, funding, and public involvement to develop and implement a new vision and long-term plan for the state parks to meet the future needs of Californians. The Parks Forward Initiative, to be coordinated by Resources Legacy Fund, has won the support of the governor’s office as well as the California Parks Commission. The Packard, Moore, Bechtel, and Irvine foundations, among others, have joined to support this effort.

for the Western Energy Project
The Resources Legacy Fund’s Western Energy Project (WEP) works to protect treasured landscapes in the American West by ensuring that development of oil and gas on federal public lands is done in a responsible manner. WEP empowers diverse organizations to preserve ecologically and culturally important areas; support the adoption of commonsense protections for water, air, land, and wildlife; and safeguard opportunities for Americans to enjoy public lands across the Intermountain West. (Substrategy: Advance Conservation Protections)
for wildfire strategies
Resources Legacy Fund works for the conservation of land, ocean, and water resources; climate change resilience; and conservation funding and policies that benefit all communities. This grant, which is funded by the Western Conservation grantmaking program and the Climate Change Initiative, supports RLF’s work to accelerate wildfire resilience in Western states and nationwide.
