Overview
This general support grant to the Resources Legacy Fund would support its work in California, Oregon, and Washington to conserve land and water resources and promote new conservation finance opportunities. Three of the highest priorities for the Fund are: (a) improving and expanding California’s state parks system to meet the diverse cultural and ecological needs of the state, (b) ensuring California adopts new water policies that provide for the needs of agriculture and city residents and protect fragile watersheds, and (c) identifying opportunities in Oregon and Washington to increase the amount of public funding for habitat protection and restoration.

This grant supports the ongoing collaboration and climate and land-use planning efforts of the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition, for which the Resources Legacy Fund serves as fiscal sponsor. Leaders from five tribes founded the coalition in 2015, representing a historic consortium of sovereign tribal nations united in the effort to conserve the Bears Ears cultural landscape. This grant supports Resources Legacy Fund’s rural community economic diversification project, which works with partners to support communities across the American West in advancing sustainable economic development alongside conservation values. Resources Legacy Fund works for the conservation of land, ocean, and water resources; climate change resilience; and conservation funding and policies that benefit all communities. This grant supports the fund’s work to build a diverse coalition that identifies and pursues opportunities to reduce risk of extreme wildfire events and bolster community resilience to wildfires in California.
