Overview
Protect Democracy is a nonprofit dedicated to preventing American democracy from declining into a more authoritarian form of government. Since launching in February 2017, Protect Democracy has filed more than 20 legal actions and more than 400 Freedom of Information Act requests. It has also provided numerous memos, reports, and background briefings to reporters, congressional staff, and other influencers who shape national policy and debate. The organization’s core activities include public education about democratic norms, monitoring and exposing violations of those norms, inducing oversight to correct norm violations, and litigating to stop democratic erosions.

Protect Democracy is a nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to preventing U.S. democracy from declining into a more authoritarian form of government. In order to preserve the norms, institutions and guardrails of U.S. democracy, Protect Democracy strategically deploys the law, policy advocacy, media, and technology to prevent the standard playbook of anti-democratic tactics employed by modern autocrats from taking root in the United States and to build a democracy that works for all of us.
