Overview
This is an Expenditure Responsibility (ER) grant to the Indian NGO PRAYAS. This grant will fund three activities. First, it will support PRAYAS in their efforts to develop a new policy framework for distributed photovoltaic (PV) systems, focusing on agricultural policies to combine super-efficient water pumps with solar power. Second, it will facilitate the adoption of super-efficient technology in newly electrified low- and medium-income households through policy that seeks to rationalize Indian subsidies to more directly promote the interests of this population. Finally, the grant will fund efforts to promote regulatory reforms that will lead to more sustainable models of the electricity distribution.

Prayas works with state electricity boards (utilities), the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, and Indian state governments to promote low-carbon, clean energy solutions. This project seeks to develop policy and regulatory solutions to expand solar energy to the 400 million Indians without electricity. The project also aims to promote codes, standards, and utility demand side management programs to facilitate the adoption of super-efficient technology in newly electrified low- and medium-income households.
