For Support Of In-country Advocacy Partnerships

Overview
This supplemental grant will support Population Action International to provide civil society organizations in Francophone West Africa with funding and assistance to develop locally owned advocacy campaigns and strategies in support of better policies for family planning and reproductive health. Over five years, the organization will expand and deepen advocacy work and partnerships in Francophone West Africa, and further support the growth and development of strong civil society champions. This grant supplements one made earlier this year to Population Action International to support similar work in two Anglophone countries in sub-Saharan Africa: Malawi and Zambia.

for improving government accountability for family planning services and supplies in Africa  
Population Action International (PAI) works to ensure universal access to quality reproductive health care, including family planning, around the world. This grant will support PAI’s work with civil society organizations in East and West Africa to develop and test approaches for tracking national budgets and spending in family planning in six countries. PAI and its local partners will use this information in national and regional advocacy efforts to strengthen accountability of national governments for commitments they have made to improve the provision of these services. PAI and its partners will also use these experiences to demonstrate the benefits of making sector budgets and spending more transparent to citizens.
