Planned Parenthood Northern California

For General Operating Support

Overview
This grant would provide general operating support to Planned Parenthood Shasta Diablo (PPSD), the largest provider of reproductive health services to low-income and uninsured people in the San Francisco Bay Area counties of San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, Contra Costa, Solano, and Napa. Over the next two years, PPSD plans to operate fifteen health centers and multiple satellite sites, including new centers in San Francisco, Marin, and Sonoma. In 2010, more than 96 percent of the clients served by PPSD had incomes at or below 200 percent of the poverty line. Prior funding from the Foundation supported the establishment of new clinics in San Francisco and Marin, which quickly received a large number of clients. PPSD launched this expansion following the expulsion of Planned Parenthood Golden Gate (PPGG), which had failed to meet national Planned Parenthood standards for financial health and management. The Population Program led a group of donors that expressed concern to PPGG about management problems and welcomes the transition to a stronger organization serving the counties on the north side of San Francisco Bay.
