Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra is dedicated to historically informed performance of the Baroque, Classical, and Early Romantic periods, as well as new music, using period instruments and vocal techniques that capture the style, spirit, and distinctive sound of that time. The Orchestra performs an annual subscription series in four venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, and is regularly heard on tour in the United States and internationally. The Orchestra has its own professional chorus, the Philharmonia Chorale, and welcomes talented guest artists from around the world. A grant to Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra will support further development of an alternative concert series, called SESSIONS; its commissioning program; and audience growth. The organization will also increase the capacities of its board, and increase contributed revenue.
for general operating support
Philharmonia Baroque presents a highly regarded six-concert season at venues in Berkeley, San Francisco, Walnut Creek, and Stanford for more than 13,000 audience members. With an enviable subscription renewal rate of 85 percent for its concerts, the organization also has a weekly radio broadcast series on KDFC and provides free in-school education programs and student matinee performances. The orchestra, which tours both domestically and internationally, has thirty-four highly praised commercial recordings and will produce six more during the next three years. A renewal grant would enable the organization to continue to strengthen its financial position while implementing strategies to build new and younger audiences for classical music.
