PACE is a membership network of foundations and funders that invest in civic engagement and democracy. Members share a belief that America will be more healthy, successful, resilient, and productive if democracy is strong and the office of citizen is treated as central to how it functions. PACE’s mission is to inspire interest, understanding, and investment in civic engagement within philanthropy and to be a voice for philanthropy in larger conversations taking place in the fields of civic engagement, service, and democratic practice. This work aims to uncover the value of civic engagement and democratic practice. The network seeks to understand and showcase why it matters and is worthy of philanthropic investment.

PACE (Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement) is a community of funders that invest in the sustaining elements of democracy and civic life in the United States. PACE’s mission is to deepen and enrich philanthropy’s practice and support of U.S. democracy and to amplify the importance of philanthropic investment in civic engagement. This renewal grant will support the continued network operations of PACE as it seeks to deepen the impact of its members’ work and also expand the reach and influence of the network in order to help more funders understand why civic engagement matters — and, therefore, why it is worthy of philanthropic investment.

Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement is a trans-partisan foundation affinity group working to "inspire interest, understanding, and investment in civic engagement within philanthropy and to be a voice for philanthropy in larger conversations taking place in the fields of civic engagement, service, and democratic practice." The group works to (a) build a philanthropic network encouraging "participation and inclusion in community, civic, and political life," (b) "inspire and incubate strategic collaborations within philanthropy that bring together policymakers, nonprofits, business, and the media to support active citizenship," and (c) increase the quantity and quality of philanthropic investment in civic engagement. This grant for general support will support the group through a leadership transition as it formalizes next steps and future priorities.
