Overview
The Millennium Development Goals (MDG) to eliminate poverty will be revised in 2015 and replaced with a new framework for international development. The objective of this grant to the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) is to prepare and share relevant and timely information about the process and politics of the global discussion on a post-2015 development strategy. Ultimately, this information will be of use in enabling civil society organizations and those who support them to influence the outcome of negotiations by helping them strategize and coordinate more effectively to ensure that a post-2015 agreement is appropriate to the problems of global poverty and enables and facilitates positive changes in the lives of poor people. ODI is Britain's leading independent think tank on international development and humanitarian issues and is well positioned to undertake this work because of its strong expertise, links with key European and UN actors, and range of partnerships on the post-2015 agenda.

for giving voice to people without access to technology in the development of post-2015 goals
One of the many sources of input for the post-2015 development goals is a global opinion polling effort, MY World, which has been conducted by the United Nations, the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), and IPSOS Mori. This survey is used to provide feedback on proposals under debate, such as those described in the recent report of the U.N. Secretary-General’s High-level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. To include voices from diverse income strata and populations, the survey is conducted through three channels: online, through mobile phones, and offline to people who lack access to either technology. This grant would permit ODI to expand the field surveys of low-income and remote people who lack access to Web and mobile communication services, so that their voices are adequately represented in the debate and resulting framework. Additional questions will explore women’s economic aspirations and the extent to which parents identify child care as a need and priority.

The Overseas Development Institute’s Growth, Poverty and Inequality program focuses on research and policy advice in support of human development outcomes. The program uses quantitative and qualitative research methods to understand how the very poorest are affected by economic change, how both national and global policy processes can meet people’s needs, and how people’s own priorities and values can inform policy processes and analysis. During the grant period, the program will have a particular focus on informing the establishment, implementation, and monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals.
for a project to bring developing country perspectives into the "beyond neoliberalism" debate
The Overseas Development Institute (ODI) is the U.K.’s leading independent think tank on international development, combining innovative applied research with policy advice and strategic dissemination. Using its international networks, its cross-disciplinary expertise, and its convening power, ODI will use this grant to bring creative developing country perspectives into the ‘beyond neoliberalism’ debate. Integrating social and environmental dimensions, contributors will interrogate and redefine some fundamental assumptions of political economy, and will develop new understandings of the nature of actors in society, of concepts of rationality and value, and of interactions between public and private actors.
