Overview
In recognition of the Hewlett Foundation’s 50th anniversary, the Hewlett 50 Arts Commissions initiative supports the creation and premiere of 50 exceptional works of performing arts. This grant will support Oakland Theater Project to develop and premiere lead artist Marcus Gardley’s “A Thousand Ships.” The play is a reimagining of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” set in the World War II-era shipyards of Richmond, California. This grant supports the Hewlett Foundation’s longstanding commitment to the performing arts in the Bay Area.
