Overview
The North Rhine-Westphalian Library Service Center is a central service organization for university libraries in northwest Germany and has been a leader in the open education movement. Building upon previous work, the Center will continue developing the OER World Map, which fosters the discovery of OER, catalyzes innovation through cooperation, and provides evidence about the impact of activities in the OER movement. This supplement will provide support for technical development and maintenance of the OER World Map.

The North Rhine-Westphalian Library Service Center (hbz) is a central service and development organization for university libraries in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) and has been a leader in the open education movement. The center will build upon previous work and continue development of an OER World Map that fosters the discovery of OER, catalyzes innovation through cooperation, and provides evidence about the impact of activities in the OER movement. The initiative helps provide robust infrastructure for discovery and adoption of OER.

The North Rhine-Westphalian Library Service Center (hbz) is a central service and development organization for university libraries in North Rhine-Westphalia and has been a leader in the Open Movement. Through a Request for Proposals process, hbz submitted the strongest proposal to develop an OER World Map. This grant request builds upon a phase I effort (which funded three projects), in which hbz successfully built a prototype in a relatively short time frame. Key deliverables of this grant include: developing a functional website that builds upon existing OER mapping efforts, encouraging interoperability of mapping efforts, fostering international collaboration, and highlighting OER efforts around the world in a way that is easy for a wide variety of audiences to understand. This grant is designed to fill a long-recognized gap in the OER field.
for development of a Global OER Map prototype
A Global OER Map would provide a picture of the worldwide OER movement, serving as a tool to identify OER projects and initiatives, facilitate connection among OER suppliers, teachers, and learners, and act as a resource for communicating with anyone interested in open education. The North-Rhine Westphalian Library Service Center is one of three organizations selected through a Request for Proposal process to design a prototype of the map, which will be presented at the Hewlett Foundation OER Grantees Meeting in April 2014. Feedback from the meeting will inform Phase II of the project.
